Newcomers to Clovis look at fall the way they'd look at any small city's event listings: a random collection of parades, pub crawls, and a county fair, all of which seem to compete for the same Saturday. Locals know better. From the last weekend of August through the first Saturday of December, almost every event worth putting on the fridge traces back to one of four organizers. Learn the four, and you can plan a whole season without ever opening a browser tab again.
That is the argument of this post. Fall in Clovis is not a scatter plot. It is a rotation, and once you see the rotation, the season plans itself.
The Four Anchors
Here is the shortlist. Everything else in this guide is a variation on one of these four.
- Clovis MainStreet runs the downtown calendar: Fall Makers Market and Food Truck Fridays through September, October, and November, Boos and Brews at the end of October, Shop Small Saturday the weekend after Thanksgiving, and the Christmas Lights Parade to close things out.
- Hillcrest Park hosts the outdoor gatherings that need real space, most notably the Rod Run and Show N Shine on the second Saturday of September.
- Curry County Events Center at 1900 E. Brady Avenue is the indoor default when weather turns, and its programming stretches from graduations in May to concerts and rodeo events year round.
- Red Door on Main at 414 N. Main Street handles the nightlife side, booking touring acts that pull a mixed crowd of ENMU students, Cannon families, and downtown regulars.

Why September Is Really Two Different Months
The second Saturday of September is the pivot point for the entire fall calendar in Clovis. On September 12, 2026, the 29th Annual Rod Run and Show N Shine takes over Hillcrest Park starting at 8:00 a.m. That is a nearly three-decade streak of the same event at the same park on the same weekend, which is the kind of continuity a lot of larger cities have quietly lost.
Before that Saturday, September belongs to the downtown Fridays. Clovis MainStreet runs Fall Makers Market and Food Truck Friday dates through September, October, and November, generally at the MainStreet CourtYard and the Judge Ruben E. Nieves lot at 8th and Main. If you're the sort of household that treats Friday night as the family outing and Saturday morning as errands, September Fridays are your window. Once the Rod Run lands, the calendar shifts outdoors and stays there through the first weekend of October.
One planning detail that catches new residents: the Rod Run and the Curry County Fair are not the same event and are not on the same weekend. The Curry County Fair runs Tuesday, August 11 through Saturday, August 15 in 2026, which means fair season is over by the time most people think of fall as fall. Do not budget the second week of September for the fair. Budget it for cars at Hillcrest and a long walk back to your truck.
The MainStreet Cadence, Explained
If you want to understand why downtown Clovis feels busier in October than in July, look at what Clovis MainStreet actually schedules. The cadence is deliberate:
- Third Fridays, September through November. Fall Makers Market and Food Truck Fridays return on the same pattern as the spring versions, at the CourtYard and 8th and Main.
- Late October. The Boos and Brews downtown pub crawl and costume contest. In past years the crawl has fallen on October 27, and the format has stayed the same: downtown venues, costume judging, an over-21 crowd.
- Saturday after Thanksgiving. Shop Small Saturday, with open houses and holiday specials at downtown businesses.
- First Saturday of December. The Christmas Lights Parade steps off downtown at 6:00 p.m. In 2026 that is Saturday, December 5.
Four events, one organizer, one geographic footprint of about ten square blocks. If you live on the north side or off Mabry, you can plan every one of these around the same parking spot.
The Nighttime Half Of The Calendar
Days belong to Hillcrest and downtown Fridays. Nights, especially once the temperature drops, belong to Red Door on Main. The building at 414 N. Main is small enough that a touring act is close enough to hear the guitar strings, which is exactly why acts route through it. Austin Meade is booked at Red Door on Main on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 7:30 p.m., and the venue keeps a rotation of similar bookings through the fall.
The point is not any single show. The point is that a resident who wants a night out during fall in Clovis has a predictable place to check first. That is different from cities where nightlife requires a monthly search across five websites.
The Homecoming Weekend Detour
The one fall weekend where locals routinely leave Clovis is ENMU homecoming down in Portales, and it is worth knowing the pattern even if you have no Greyhound connection, because it shifts traffic on U.S. 70 and fills hotel rooms in both towns.
Activities begin on Monday of homecoming week at 6:00 p.m. with Songfest at the Campus Union Building Ballroom, and continue with a bonfire and pep rally followed by a drone show, a Saturday morning parade, and the football game. In 2025 that Saturday was October 25. The 2026 dates should follow the same late-October pattern, so if you have out-of-town family visiting and want to show them something bigger than a pub crawl, that is the weekend to invite them.
Cannon has its own fall anchor as well. The Cannon County 2026 Agricultural Fair is scheduled for Thursday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cannon County Fair Grounds. It draws a different crowd than the Curry County Fair in August, and it comes late enough in the season that the weather usually cooperates.
A working rule for fall in Clovis: if the event is outdoors, it will be earlier in the season than you think. If it is indoors, it will be later. Plan your wardrobe and your babysitter accordingly.
The Curry County Events Center Is The Utility Player
The Events Center at 1900 E. Brady Avenue is not the star of any single fall weekend, but it is the venue that keeps the calendar functional when weather or scale demands it. The campus holds the Citizens Bank of Clovis Events Center with flexible event space, the My Metal Livestock Center for livestock shows, and an Indoor Pavilion used for weddings and intimate events. That means when a bull riding event, a wedding, and a livestock show all need the same weekend in November, they can all get one.
For a resident, the practical value is knowing the address. If you get a text that a concert or a rodeo is at "the Events Center," it is 1900 E. Brady, not the Clovis Civic Center at 801 Schepps Boulevard. Those two get confused constantly, and the confusion has ruined more than one first date.
What A Realistic Fall Weekend Looks Like
Enough taxonomy. Here is how a typical Clovis household might actually spend a fall weekend, using only the anchors above.
Friday. Third Friday of the month, walk down to 8th and Main for Fall Makers Market and Food Truck Fridays. Eat first, browse second.
Saturday morning. If it is the second Saturday of September, you are at Hillcrest for the Rod Run. If it is later in the season, you are running errands in the same corridor: the Clovis-Curry County Chamber directory lists dozens of restaurants along Prince Street, Mabry Drive, and 21st Street, so lunch is a matter of picking a corner.
Saturday evening. Check Red Door on Main for the touring act. If nothing is booked, the Events Center almost always has something on its schedule.
Sunday. Rest, unless it is Rod Run weekend, in which case you are recovering.
